Meet this month’s Mutt of the Month, or shall we say eligible bachelor, Private Riley! He can be easily mistaken for an adorable stuffed animal due to his flowing caramel locks (he always asks to march sans helmet because hat head is SOO not cool).

Although still a pup, Riley is an old soul at heart. His hobbies include a leisurely strolls to the gardens in Jersey City where he sits with marcher Leslie adoring the spinning pinwheels, spending time in the thoughtful sanctity of the crate he loves, and listening to his favorite XM soft rock radio stations.

And ladies – get this – not only is Private Riley a looker, but he has the brains to go with that handsome mug as well! He attends school on Saturdays (at Petsmart) where he learns to conquer commands such as sit, stay, AND touch!  Although a true ladies’ man, he will always be a mama’s boy at heart =) We salute YOU Private Riley!

This month we would like you to meet a brother sister duo who are quite the impressive team!

Private Pepper is truly a selfless little speckled lady. When enduring overnights with her marcher and platoon leader Leslie, she will quickly morph into a pillow so Leslie can be well-rested for the next day’s marches. She is always thinking of her entire platoon before her own needs. Once outside the home, good bye little lady and hello fierce samurai warrior! Private Pepper will alert marcher Leslie of any possible threats – her mantra is that you are guilty until sniffed innocent!

Next up we have Lieutenant Charlie who is the polar opposite of Pepper. He’s a gentleman when outside, although he often leaves messy grenade bombs on the sidewalk as a booby/poopy-trap for any potential enemies to step in – this is just his way of securing the perimeter. Once inside his bunker, he will tell off anything and everything: the wind, the heater, and most importantly, ANYTHING that beeps, so noisy nemesis’s beware!

When this team comes together they are truly a force to be reckoned with! The civilians of Jersey City can sleep a little more soundly knowing these two are securing the streets.

Mr. Buster

Standing at an impressive twelve inches tall, Buster the shih tzu is the unanimous winner of December’s Mutt of the Month. His charismatic nature, overwhelming coolness, suave haircut, and cute little smile sometimes leads to him being mistaken for a younger Tom Cruise (minus the Scientology beliefs) or a modern day James Dean (sans the cigarettes).

Mr. Buster never misses a group play date and at these outings he is sure to find the squeakiest of squeaky toys and hold on to it like there’s no tomorrow. “Big deal,” other jealous mutts might mumble, but to us this is a clear sign of a winner. You see, some may see this behavior as Mr. Buster showing selfish tendencies, when in actuality, it’s quite the opposite – Buster takes it upon himself to “test-drive” all the new squeaky toys to make sure they are suitable for his friends! Congrats Mr. Buster for having a bigger heart than most and on attaining Mutt of the Month status!

New to the states, meet the UK’s beautiful ladies Halle & Nala. While marching these stunning girls through Hoboken, many a times they are mistaken for either royalty or super models that could have easily walked off the runways from Fashion Week. You may think they are just another pretty face (yawn), but be on your toes because they are a force to wrecken with! Halle (the Doberman) will defend any pedestrian that approaches her marcher friend or faux, they are an enemy until proven innocent in her eyes. As for Nala, she is quite the gentle little giant but if there are snipers dressed in cute little squirrel outfits let’s hope you have your running shoes on because you don’t stand a chance with this special forces leader.

So, let’s put our hands (I mean paws) together and congratulate Halle & Nala for earning Mutt(s) of the Month! WE SALUTE YOU!

This month’s award is a bit unique. Typically we select only one fine pup but in this situation how can you possibly choose only one winner?! Meet Callie, Sandy, and Orangie, three Westies who reside in Leonia, New Jersey. Although their cute, fluffy, angelic faces look sweet and innocent, beware because here at Marching Mutts headquarters we think these three are seasoned veterans! Callie is the mommy and she will do anything to protect her babies. Sandy is the only male and he patrols the perimeter of his Leonia household. He’s also a decorated veteran in agility class! And don’t forget Orangie who may look like the typical Westie teenager you’d find shopping in SoHo, but we think she may be pulling double duty as an interrogation officer based on how she looks civilians up and down on the streets of her home town.

So, let’s put our hands (I mean paws) together and congratulate Callie, Sandy, and Orangie for earning July’s Mutt(s) of the Month! WE SALUTE YOU!

Lucky’s is incredibly clean and the staff are both friendly and knowledgeable. We got a full tour of the facility, which includes canine VIP suites equipped with observation cameras, a sizable outdoor run, a full pet items store with everything known to man, and, I KID YOU NOT – a REAL in-ground pool for dogs! To top it all off, Lucky’s has a room service menu that you can call in to order for your pets from! Rest assured that numerous peanut butter-based concoctions are on the menu. The free bruschetta is the best I have EVER had, and the home-made deserts are to die for. We also highly recommend the cheese platter, the bronzino, the pollo solsiccio y fungi, and pretty much every other dish we have ever tried! Seriously, do yourselves all a favor and check this place out – it’s a true diamond in the rough right in our own backyard!
